How to Grow and Maintain the Perfect Trimmed Beard Shape
Growing a trimmed beard will take time and proper care to ensure it’s groomed properly. Here are the steps to grow one yourself.
1. Grow A Full Beard
To get the best-looking trimmed beard you can, you will first need to grow a decently sized beard around one to three inches in length. You need to ensure that you have good coverage so that it won’t look patchy when you trim it. That means you should grow your beard out maybe an inch or so past the size you are actually aiming for. Daily beard supplements can help you grow your beard if you’re having trouble.
2. Trim The Facial Hair
Once you have passed the desired length that you want for your beard, it’s time to trim it back. This will make sure that all of the hairs are of a uniform size. Trimming can also help promote healthy growth in your beard, so to keep it maintained, you may find yourself trimming every one to two weeks.
Use a good beard clipper, or get a grooming set with a comb and scissors to trim those hairs. The comb guides by letting in the hairs you want to trim. Then use clippers or scissors to cut off the unwanted hair. Do this for your whole beard, and make sure you are pulling through the same size length in the comb each time.
3. Shave Clean Lines
After you have trimmed down your beard, it is time to clean up your lines. That means shaving around the cheek and neck area, so give it a sharp look. Place a beard-shaping tool against your cheek or neckline and use the tool's edges to shave around. This flat area of the tool will give you a straight line, and the curved edges will help get a nice shape around your cheek and sideburns. We recommend a good shave lube, so your face doesn’t become irritated.
4. Wash And Repeat
Finally, you should wash your beard off of any cut hair. You can use a beard wash to clean it and then use a nice butter afterwards to soften it and make it smell fresh. Then take a beard brush and brush down those facial hairs uniformly. Your new trimmed beard looks great, and all you have to do now is maintain it weekly by trimming, shaving, and keeping it clean.
Here are some of our favorite product recommendations to help you get the perfect trimmed beard:

- The Expert Grooming Set: This kit has everything you need to style your beard, including scissors, a razor, a comb, a beard brush, and a beard-shaping tool.

How to Grow and Maintain the Perfect Sideburns Shape
Growing out just your sideburns can be a fun and rewarding experience. Here are the steps to make it happen.
1. Grow Out The Sideburns
The first step, of course, is to begin growing out your sideburns. Depending on if you’re going for a cleaner look or a more unruly look will determine how long your sideburns should be. That means they can be anywhere from half an inch to more than four inches in length. Regardless, ensure that you grow them half an inch past their final length. This will give you room to work with and make it possible to trim them for an even look.
2. Shave Off Unwanted Hair
Next, you will need to shave off the hair that connects to your chin hair. The key to a good sideburn look is to let it be the star of the show. You can grow a goatee if you’d like. Just make sure that the goatee and sideburns do not touch. Pick up a grooming kit and use the razor and a good shave lube to remove the unwanted hair. Lather your face with the shave lube, shave off the hair around your jawline and neck, and then rinse.
3. Trim And Style The Sideburns
Finally, you will want to trim the sideburns and style them however you see fit. Use a beard trimmer or comb and scissors from the grooming kit to cut the facial hair uniformly. You can also use the included beard-shaping tool to finish shaving and cleaning up your sideburn lines. We also recommend investing in a good beard brush and beard butter to give your sideburns a smooth and soft feel.
Here are some of our favorite product recommendations to help you get the perfect sideburns:
- The Expert Grooming Kit: Contains everything you need to shape and style your sideburns, including a razor, scissors, beard brush, comb, and beard-shaping tool.
- Shave Lube: Has all-natural ingredients to give you a smooth feel to your skin without irritating it.
- Beard Butter - Original: Used to keep your beard hydrated, moisturized, and smelling great.

How to Grow and Maintain the Perfect Full Beard Shape
Growing out your facial hair takes time, especially if you're starting from scratch. But the process of growing out a full beard is pretty straightforward:
1. Let your hair grow.
This one seems pretty obvious, but you have to let your hair grow for a period of time. Beard hair tends to grow a little bit faster than the hair on your scalp, and you can expect your beard to grow by an inch every 2-4 months.
2. Use the right products.
The difference between a good-looking beard and a patchy beard or unkempt look comes down to the beard products you use. We recommend cleansing your face daily with a facial cleanser or beard wash to keep hair follicles and pores from becoming clogged and using a quality beard oil to keep your beard hair soft and tame.
As you're in the beginning stages of growing a full beard, you probably don't need a beard brush, but as it gets longer, this may be a worthwhile investment, too.
Here are some of our favorite product recommendations to help you get this facial hair style:
- Wild Willies True Cleanse Daily Face Wash: to keep your skin clean and free from clogged pores
- Wild Willies Original Beard Oil: to keep your beard looking smooth
- BONUS: Wild Willies Beard Growth Supplements: for those who are just a little bit impatient and want to speed up the growth process.
3. Keep it defined.
You don't want a scruffy beard while you're trying to grow it out, so be sure to keep it trimmed daily or every other day, depending on how quickly your hair grows. Be sure to shave your neck line and cheek lines to keep your growing beard looking well-groomed.
4. Trim it up as needed.
Yes, you need to let your beard grow, but you also need to keep your facial hair trimmed in order to get the shape and style you want. This means trimming up any stray hairs that have gone awry, and maintaining the overall oval shape of the beard. You may need to keep it shorter in some places, like around your cheeks, and longer around the chin. The Edge Beard Shaping Tool is a simple but effective tool that will give you precise lines around your cheeks and neckline and will help you trim up the sideburns and maintain symmetry while your beard grows.

How to Grow and Maintain the Perfect 5 O’clock Shadow
Growing a 5 o’clock shadow is quick and easy. The most important thing is to take good care of your skin so it looks clean and well-maintained.
1. If you have a beard, shave it off.
If you’ve been working on a longer beard style, it’s going to need to go. We recommend shaving it completely with a razor. Don’t forget to use a good shave lube in order to minimize knicks and cuts or the dreaded razor burn.
2. Skip shaving on day 2 and maybe day 3.
The 5 o’clock shadow looks best after a day or two of growth. While you won’t have to worry about shaving for a day or two, you should still cleanse your face daily with a facial cleanser and use a moisturizer to prevent itchy, dry skin.
3. Maintain your stubble by keeping it trimmed up.
There’s a fine line between an intentional 5 o’clock shadow and looking like you just forgot to shave for a while. Keep your stubble in check by using your trimmer with one of the lowest guards (usually a 0 or 1) every 2-3 days.
Here are some of our favorite product recommendations to help you get the perfect 5 o’clock shadow:
- Wild Willies Shave Lube: to prevent knicks, cuts, and razor burn
- Wild Willies True Cleanse: to keep your face clean and free from pore-clogging bacteria

How to Grow and Maintain the Perfect Anchor Beard Shape
Follow these steps to get the perfect anchor beard.
1. Even out your beard hair length.
An anchor beard can look good with anything from a few days’ worth of stubble up to an inch or so in length. The important thing is to even out the length of your beard so it’s uniform throughout. You can use scissors and a comb, or you can use your trimmer. This grooming kit contains scissors, a comb, and a shaping tool to help you achieve a uniform length.
2. Shape your mustache.
You have a few options here for how you’d like to shape your mustache. Keep it straight across, angle it down, or flip it up at the sides; whatever you prefer. If you’re going to flip it up at the sides, use a beard butter to shape the sides.
3. Shape the “anchor.”
Next, you’ll need to use your razor or your trimmer without a guard to shape the anchor on your chin. You can make the anchor part as narrow or wide as you’d like, but a good rule of thumb is to leave about a 1” section of hair directly below the center of your lip. Then, keep some hair along your chin, going about as far out as your mustache or just a bit further. Be sure to use a shave lube to get a close shave.
4. Maintain your beard.
Maintain your beard by continuing to shave the negative space every day or so, and keep your facial hair uniform in length by trimming it up as needed. Be sure to wash your face daily and then moisturize with a soothing moisturizer that will keep your face and beard hair healthy and smooth.
Here are some of our favorite product recommendations to help you get the perfect [TYPE]:
- The Expert Grooming Kit: contains all the tools you need to trim your beard to a uniform length.
- Wild Willies Beard Butter: to smooth and shape your mustache.
- Wild Willies Shave Lube: to get a close shave.

How to Grow and Maintain the Perfect Short Round Beard Shape
As its name indicates, a short round beard should be on the shorter side, meaning you can grow it out in less time than some other styles. Follow these steps to achieve the short round beard style.
1. Grow out your beard and mustache.
You need a mustache to balance out the short round beard, and we think a thick, full beard looks best. For optimal growth, we suggest using a growth serum along with a derma roller, which can increase the absorption of the growth serum by up to 500%. To use the derma roller, simply press it against clean skin and roll it up and down across your face after applying the growth serum.
2. Maintain the short length.
As your mustache begins to grow, you can keep it trimmed right above the lipline with a pair of trimming scissors from a grooming kit. To keep the short length of this beard style, use a trimmer or a pair of grooming scissors every week or so to keep your beard at a length of about 1”.
3. Keep your neckline clean.
On a round face, stubble that extends down your neckline isn’t a good look. Use a shave lube and a razor to keep the area below your chin stubble-free. If you’re using a safety razor, be sure to replace the blade at least once a week to keep it from getting dull.
Here are some of our favorite product recommendations to help you get the perfect short round beard:
- Growth Serum: to jumpstart your beard growth
- Derma Roller: to increase absorption of growth serum
- Grooming Kit: includes trimming scissors and everything else you need to get a great beard
