A buddy of mine recently told me about how is beard wasn’t quite what he expected…

He was hoping to look in the mirror one day and see a Paul Bunyan-version of himself.

And instead, all he sees is a flattened beard with no life to it…

What was he doing wrong?

When you commit to growing a beard, you’ll quickly realize the importance of proper grooming. The type of grooming and healthy habits you should probably be applying to all aspects of your life…

But relax. We’re just here to talk about beards today.

There are several products on the market for beard grooming like shampoos and conditioners, but no product will be as valuable to you as beard oil.

To fully understand the essential nature of this product and take advantage of the benefits it can provide effortlessly, you’ve got to ask yourself what does beard oil do that those other products just can’t? And how is this one product helping me and my beard?

This is what my buddy discovered. And it changed everything…

Understanding Beard Oil

At its core, beard oil is a moisturizer, cleanser and conditioner. It’s designed to ensure healthy skin, which then promotes a healthier, fuller and more manageable beard.

The oils in these products are used to mimic the natural oils of the skin and typically include a blend of coconut oil, grapeseed oil, jojoba oil and others.

These oils are classified as either carrier or essential oils, and they serve to dilute concentrated essential oils, making them safer for your skin.

Most of the beard oil’s scent comes from these essential oils. But depending on your needs, oils can also come scented or unscented too.

Benefits Of Using Beard Oil

Why use beard oil? Well the purpose of beard oil was realized centuries ago, but it didn’t become commercialized in the 1930s.

It may seem like something new because of its lack of online recognition until 2006 and the recent explosion of beards all around the world, but it’s been around helping people control their wiry beards for decades.

But if that isn’t enough to convince you, here’s seven reasons why beard oil might as well be the best thing you can do for your beard…

1. Stop The Itch

How many times have you tried to grow a beard? And what caused you to shave it all off?

Was it the dreaded beard itch? If so, you’re not alone.

Itchiness is common among beard growers, and reasons for the incessant urge to scratch include initial growth, dry skin and dirt or grime.

Regular use of oil can reduce that itchiness because it helps to moisturize the skin and soften the hair follicles.

2. Prevent Those Little White Flakes

Beard dandruff is another common problem. But unfortunately, dandruff is related to itchiness.

When itchiness is caused by dry skin, scratching causes those dry skin flakes to fall from your beard and onto your clothing. Using oil routinely will moisturize your skin, and the dandruff disappears.

3. Keep The Breakouts At An All-Time Low

A natural side effect of having a beard is the potential for acne and outbreaks. But it doesn’t have to be.

Throughout the day, your beard will catch dirt, pollutants and food. All of the daily debris creates the opportunity for clogged follicles and blocked pores that lead to acne.

Thankfully, beard oil keeps your hair and pores clear and free of everyday debris, which means less breakouts.

4. Less Patches, More Beard

While no topical beard treatment can counter genetic causes for patchiness, oil can help the skin heal.

If your patchy beard is due to skin health, then the routine use of oils can potentially repair the underlying skin problem, resulting in a more even follicle growth.

BUT it should be stressed that beard oil is not magic. It won’t cause hair to grow where your genetics have already decided otherwise, but it can create the opportunity for healthy growth.

5. Winning The War On Odors

Beard odor and smelly beards are not uncommon. Daily debris contributes to often unpleasant odors.

But beard oils, especially scented ones, combat the issues of an unkempt beard. So does regular grooming. You should also use a beard wash in combination with your oil.

6. As Light As A Feather

There are other products, like balms, that can be used to moisturize and clean a beard, but they are usually heavier than oil.

While it may not seem like the weight is that different, we encourage you to try it out for yourself. You might think you’re a balm kind of guy, but there’s no doubt that a balm will naturally weigh down your beard all day. It’s just a little heavier and thicker, that’s all.

Oil is definitely lighter, and you use a smaller amount.

7. Look Good, Feel Great

If used regularly, beard oil will make styling a whole lot easier because a conditioned beard tends to be more manageable and tameable than one that isn’t.

When to Use Beard Oil

Now that you understand the why, it’s crucial to know how often to be using beard oil.

At a minimum, you should apply beard oil twice a day. Apply it once in the morning after your shower and use it again at night when you wash your face or before you go to bed.

How to Apply Beard Oil

It’s easy. Just start out by putting a few drops into the palms of your hands. Then, spread it around your palms and fingers evenly.

After you’ve done that, brush your hands along the side and then down the front of your beard. Bring your hands up from the bottom of your beard, and then, using your fingers, coat the mustache area of your beard.

Finally, use a comb to distribute the oil throughout your beard.

After a week of doing this, my buddy started seeing amazing results. His beard really started to look the way he had hoped.

Don’t Stop Here…

At the end of the day, the purpose of beard oil is to moisturize your skin and condition your beard. And doing both those things can transform you and your beard’s appearance.
