Women have makeup to accentuate their features, but men have something else: facial hair. If you aren't working on your grooming routine, you aren't living up to the modern masculine standards. No longer is an unkempt and unruly appearance the mark of a true macho man. Having some sort of grooming regime is the sign of a ruggedly handsome guy now. From men's beards to men's eyebrows, let's take a look at ways to keep your appearance manly while also maintaining that modern, studly image.

Men's Eyebrows: Two, Not One

Men have a propensity to grow a lot of facial hair.  A well-kept beard shows off your manliness and lets people know that you work hard in your life. When you allow your facial hair to grow untamed, though, people don't get the same impression from you.

Your eyebrows should be just that - eyebrows! If your studly facial hair begins to take over, it's time to take some steps to cut back some of that overgrown brow development. No one wants to stare at a unibrow when they should be staring at the virile, chiseled features of your face. Men's eyebrows should enhance their masculinity, not detract from it. Let's try some steps to turn that one disheveled brow into two carefully structured brows.

Plucking

One of the most common tools for grooming brows is tweezers, and for good reason! You can get precision style, using the right techniques, with them, and they are very easy to use. Your goal is to minimize the "bushy" of your two brows, but not over-style them. No one wants to go from manly to metro in one grooming session. Here are the steps for getting that perfectly plucked, but still burly brow line.

  1. Brush your brow hairs upward. You can either use a simple household tool like a toothbrush, or you can use your favorite beard brush or mustache comb.

  2. Optional: You can use some brow-shaping scissors to trim the hairs that reach too far above your natural brow line. Be careful not to cut too much off and make your eyebrows appear thin and sickly.

  3. Time to pluck the unruly, overactive brow hairs. Make sure to get any that are migrating out toward your other brow and the bridge of your nose. You don't want to pluck further inward than the beginning of your brow. The beginning of your eyebrow usually aligns with the corner of your eye that is closest to your nose.

  4. After defeating that unibrow, you can clean up your eyebrows a tad more by plucking stray hairs that are under your brows. An important note: Never pluck above your brows. You will quickly go from a well-groomed man to an overstyled one. Our goal is to appear rugged and handsome, not stylish and pretty.

  5. Follow up with just a dab of brow cream. You can also just follow your normal skincare regimen after you are finished and revel at your perfectly studly and sculpted men's eyebrows.

Shaving

If you choose to go the shaving route, be very careful not to shave too much off. You will need to use a small razor, made specifically for narrow and small spaces like brow lines. Do not use the everyday razor that you also use to clean up your beard! It is too big for precision and gives you a greater likelihood of too much grooming.

Some fantastic news is that the proper razor to use used to be called cutesy names like "face defuzzer," but now has the more neutral name of "eyebrow razor." You also won't have to use a girly color, because you can easily find eyebrow razors in a neutral color like black. You will need to shave more often than you'll need to pluck, so be prepared for some extra maintenance if you go this route. Bottom line: if tweezers aren't working out for you, then try an eyebrow razor to free your bushy brows from their untamed look.

Men's Eyebrows: Slick, Not Shabby

Once you've shaped your eyebrows into brawny perfection, keep up the grooming with a daily cleansing and moisturizing regimen. If the skin around your eyebrows is dry, flaky, or oily, you won't look well-groomed. There are a couple of steps you can take to make sure that your sculpted face makes the manliest impression possible.

Washing

While you may think that using your bar soap in the shower is good enough, the face needs a particular type of cleaning to put forth the macho-but-caring look. Don't use a scented cleanser that you borrow from your lady; use one specifically designed to match the ruggedness of a man's countenance. Taking just a few moments each day for skincare can make a huge, positive difference in your appearance.

Brushing

The hair on your face needs to be brushed regularly, just like the hair on the top of your head. If you have a full, sculpted beard, you are probably already brushing it daily. Men's eyebrows also need to be brushed or combed daily to preserve that wild-but-maintained look that people love. A proper grooming kit will have all the brushes and combs you need to maintain your desired look each day.

Smoothing

If your eyebrows are well-maintained, but the hairs are lying every which way, it can give you a disheveled look. Put forth the powerful attitude of "I value myself and will value you, too" by using a smoothing cream to tame your brows a bit further. You can use your favorite beard cream or oil, or try a styling gel for particularly stubborn hairs. Smoothing your brows can up your hygiene game, and you can impress others with your ruggedly handsome features.
